Accidentally growing 100 peppers

For about eight months now I have been trying to grow Bell Peppers. I have saved seeds from peppers from the grocery store, I have bought seeds from a garden shop, I’ve even tried just planting a whole pepper. Yet nothing has worked.

As a result of this every time I cut ANY pepper, I save the seeds from it. During lockdown I decided it was time to try a terrarium. I found an old fish tank, around 30 cm by 30 cm, and chucked eight months of seeds into it. I watered it, put the lid on and let it do it’s thing.

A few weeks later, after not really paying attention to it, I wondered past the terrarium. The WHOLE thing was green. Initially, I thought it had to be weeds. There was no chance I had grown that many peppers. After lots of googling and pictures to my friends, I finally accepted that I now had over 100 peppers to look after.

Now here is where I went wrong. Because I never thought I would actually be able to grow a pepper, I never took the time to separate the seeds into the different species. If I am being completely honest, I have no idea what seeds went in there or how many different ones.

Obviously I would like one plant of each. However, that has proven very difficult. Transplanting and looking after around 50 peppers is not as fun as it sounds.

So now my next few months are going to be me waiting for them all to fruit so I can try and make out what they are. As of today, one has started to fruit. The pepper is growing long and slender, as well as the plant has some black detailing on the stem. I think it might be a Jalapeño, but I could be wrong.

Possible Jalapeño ???

Let’s just hope I don’t have 50 of the same pepper !
